Which addresses are on Torrent Power
Torrent's own business page lists five Gujarat supply areas: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Dahej SEZ and Dholera SIR. Inside each, the boundary follows the licence, not the municipal ward or the pin code, and the edges are where people get caught out.
- Ahmedabad: most of the city is Torrent, but Bopal, South Bopal, Shilaj, Changodar and the rural talukas are on UGVCL.
- Gandhinagar: the city is Torrent. Kalol, Mansa, Dehgam and the villages are UGVCL, and Kudasan or Sargasan can be either. GIFT City has its own licensee, GIFT Power Company.
- Surat: Torrent supplies parts of the city, mainly the older central areas. The rest of the city and the district are DGVCL.
- Dahej: Torrent is the licensee inside the SEZ; the rest of Bharuch district is DGVCL.
- Dholera: GERC issued Torrent a licence in October 2018 as a second distributor for the SIR, and its March 2026 order says supply there started in the third quarter of FY 2023-24.
Torrent's route from application to meter
Torrent's Solar Guide splits rooftop work into two tracks. Homes that want the central subsidy go through the National Portal (PM Surya Ghar). Systems without subsidy, including businesses, go through the GEDA route. In both, a vendor empanelled for that route files the application for you.
Torrent's FAQ describes the order of events: the online documents are checked, the vendor is sent to pay Torrent's solar estimate on its portal, the application is registered at a Torrent office, and Torrent's team gives feasibility approval on the portal. The vendor then lodges the signed net metering connectivity agreement, a cancelled cheque and the other papers at your zonal office. Torrent fits the meter box, installs the import-export meter (plus a solar meter where required) and updates the portal once metering is done.
The solar estimate paid through the Quotation payment button covers Torrent's metering and connection work, not the cost of the plant. The charges sheets on the Solar Guide are headed Torrent Power Limited (Ahmedabad), so Surat, Dahej and Dholera consumers should confirm which sheet applies to them.
- Up to 10 kW: a self-certification test report signed by the vendor as licensed electrical contractor, with an electrical supervisor's signature.
- Above 10 kW: the Chief Electrical Inspector's drawing approval and inspection report.
- HT consumers above 150 kW: a separate metering panel drawing is listed among Torrent's documents.
Torrent's tariff category names and why they matter for solar
GERC sets a separate tariff for each Torrent licence area, and the schedules do not use identical labels. Read the category printed on your bill, because GERC's net metering rules settle solar differently by category: an LT Non-RGP connection is set off over the billing cycle, LTMD only against 7 am to 6 pm use over the cycle, and HT connections against 7 am to 6 pm on the same day.
- Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar schedule: RGP, GLP, Non-RGP, LTP (AG), LTMD-1, LTMD-2, SL, TMP, LT EV charging, then HTMD-1, HTMD-2, HTMD-3, HTMD Metro Traction, NTCT and HT EV charging.
- Surat schedule: RGP, GLP, Non-RGP, a single LTMD, TMP, AGP and LT EV charging, then HTMD-I, HTMD-II, HTMD-III, HTMD Metro Traction, NTCT and HT EV charging.
- Dahej and Dholera schedules: RGP, Non-RGP and LTMD among others; Dahej adds Non-RGP Night and LTMD-Night options.
Pols, society terraces and towers
In the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar schedule, RGP covers homes and also common services (lifts, water pumps, passage lights) in residential premises up to 15 kW connected load. A society whose common load is bigger moves to LTMD-1, a demand-based category where the daytime set-off rule comes into play, so a large tower should check its category (and ask the installer to confirm the set-off) before sizing a plant. Surat's schedule simply applies RGP to all services in residential premises.
Torrent publishes a separate form for each kind of shared roof. An old pol house with several connections on one terrace needs the joint-ownership consent, signed by every co-owner. A society putting solar on its common connection gives a declaration for common service. Flat owners who want panels for their own meters need a terrace distribution deed that marks each flat's share. In a high-rise, the terrace is small next to the number of flats, so the common meter is usually the only realistic place for a plant.
Subsidy for Torrent households
The central subsidy works the same way for Torrent homes as anywhere else: you register on the PM Surya Ghar portal, choose Torrent Power as your company and enter the service number from your bill. Torrent's Solar Guide links to the portal and carries its own charges sheets for National Portal applications.
Gujarat's resolution of 22 October 2026 adds a state top-up for homes with up to 2.18 kW DC installed under PM Surya Ghar. The resolution names Torrent Power among the power companies that pass this top-up on, so Torrent's residential consumers are covered. It is paid by DBT, with GUVNL as the nodal agency. Our post on the Gujarat state solar subsidy for 2026 sets out who qualifies. Shops, offices and factories get no subsidy; ask your CA about depreciation.
