What Nandesari makes
GIDC lists Nandesari's notified area as 230 ha, and its 2025 auction notices for the Vadodara region class it as a chemical zone. The estate's industries association says plots were first allotted in 1967. The MSME-DI district profile (GIDC data from around 2011) counts 515 plots and 504 units in production.
The association's own undated brochure breaks the units down like this (its figures, not GIDC's), and says about 80% of them are micro and small:
- Dyes and dye intermediates: 32%
- Pharma and pharma intermediates: 23%
- Synthetic organic chemicals: 22%
- Inorganic chemicals: 14%
- Recovery units 4%, pesticides 3%, engineering 2%
Round-the-clock reactors, daytime solar
Batch reactors, agitators, chillers, vacuum pumps, scrubbers and effluent pumps do not stop at sunset. That changes the sizing logic. Under GERC rules, solar is set off only against use between 7 am and 6 pm (same day for HT, over the billing cycle for LTMD), so night use is never offset.
The good news is that a plant with a steady base load almost never exports. If your daytime draw never falls below a certain level, a rooftop system sized below that level is used fully, every sunny day. Ask the installer to start from your load data, ideally a few months of daytime readings, and to explain how the midday ToD rate on your connection affects what each solar unit is worth. For bigger loads than the roof can carry, they can also explain captive and open-access routes.
Corrosive air means a different build
The association's brochure says the estate installed a continuous ambient air quality monitoring station in May 2015. Acid vapours, ammonia and sulphur compounds, typical around chemical plants, eat into ordinary galvanising, fasteners and cable trays far faster than in a clean engineering estate. Points worth insisting on:
- Mounting structures with heavier galvanising or aluminium, and stainless steel fasteners, so bolts do not seize or rust through
- Modules and connectors rated for a corrosive or ammonia environment, checked on the datasheet
- Inverters in a closed, ventilated room away from the process block, not hung outdoors next to a scrubber outlet
- Panels kept upwind of stacks and vents where the roof allows, because acid mist and dye dust settle on glass
- Hazardous-area zoning respected: in solvent handling areas, cable routes and electrical boxes may need to stay outside classified zones
Cleaning: more often, and with soft water
Panels near chemical plants soil faster than in most of Gujarat, and the film is often sticky rather than plain dust. Plan a cleaning schedule closer to weekly than monthly, and look at generation data to see when output drops. Water matters too. The association's brochure gives raw water in the area at around 3,500 mg/L TDS, which leaves white spots on glass. The estate's own RO plant supplies water below 150 mg/L, which is far better for washing modules.
Old roofs need care. Plots here were first allotted in the late 1960s, and older sheds may still have cement sheet roofing. Have the roof material identified before anyone drills or walks on it.
Paperwork with MGVCL Nandesari
LT units file with the MGVCL sub-division printed on their bill; HT units deal with MGVCL's higher offices in Vadodara, and the installer should know the current desk. Because this is a chemical estate, also keep your GPCB consent and factory approvals current: an installer will want to know about any restricted zones on your plot before designing. If you like, we can put you in touch with one checked installer who has worked in chemical estates around Vadodara.
